The Power of Prayer Partners – Libby Hall and Dar Davis
Ephesians 6:18 and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Philippians 1:3 I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
A great benefit of the Christian community is that believers in Christ pray for one another. Praying for others is a pattern seen throughout Scripture, from David praying for guidance in fighting the Philistines, to the prayers of Jesus throughout his ministry, to the prayers of Paul and the other Apostles.
Knowing others are praying for you is especially important during a pandemic. Since April, my friend Libby and I have been “prayer partners”. We get together every Thursday by telephone to pray for the members of our congregation who have requested prayers. We also pray for others we know who might be in need of a prayer. And we pray for each other during the week. Because of this, we have become much better acquainted and share a lot more than prayer; we share thoughts and feelings about the pandemic, about our Bible Study, about recipes, etc. For those who feel uncomfortable praying in a group setting, finding a prayer partner can be less intimidating and a small step closer to getting used to “talking to and with God”.
Do you pray for others? There are so many people and situations we can pray for. Think about reaching out to another person and becoming prayer partners. We have found that when we finish praying together each week, we feel joy and satisfaction.
Prayer: Gracious and loving God, we come to You today feeling blessed that we have the opportunity to talk to You anytime, anywhere about anything. What a gift especially during challenging times. We know that prayer is a direct link to You and Your love. We are forever grateful to You and for Your forgiveness. Amen
