During this Lenten season of prayerful meditation, and during this global period of unrest and worry, what comfort can be found in the Psalter? Starting on April 10th, the Span of Ages Sunday School class will read and discuss Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the most significant Protestant theologians of the twentieth century and a strong voice against the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and 1940’s; so much so that he was imprisoned and eventually executed by the leaders of Nazi Germany during WWII. Learning to pray the Psalms helped enable him to draw on the power of God during his imprisonment, and this classic book reveals how the Psalms can be essential to the life of all believers. Our study will cover Bonhoeffer’s reflections on psalms of thanksgiving, suffering, guilt, praise, and lament, and give contemporary readers wisdom and resources for living in the modern world. The Span of Ages Sunday School class meets on Sundays at 0845-0945 in the morning via live sessions in the Small Kitchen in the church, and virtual participation via Zoom.
