Walking to Fight Hunger
Franconia UMC’s annual walk-a-thon to raise funds to support Rise Against Hunger will take place in August. This year, we are shaking things up a little bit! Instead of teams, we are challenging everyone to set a personal goal – and then try to beat it! We are also asking participants to ask their friends and families for pledges, which can be paid by using Franconia UMC’s online donation link and choosing “Rise Against Hunger” from the drop down menu. Community Garden Update
Thanks to your prayers, donations, and help, we continue to harvest and provide produce to Koinonia. So far, we have provided radishes, carrots, jalapenos, bell peppers, zucchini, and spring onions. The tomatoes are growing rapidly, and we are anxiously awaiting the potato harvest. We thank God for His provision.
VBS Sunday – 10AM One Service July 16
We will have One service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 16 to celebrate VBS Sunday. The service will be followed by an ice cream fellowship in the back parking lot. Come meet our VBS families and show them who we are at Franconia UMC.
Called Church Conference Update
At our Church conference on Sunday, July 11, a resolution was approved to move our church to a modified leadership organizational structure. This new leadership structure will combine the Church Council, the SPPRC, the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee into one leadership board. The new leadership board will take effect on January 1, 2024.
Safe Sanctuary training opportunities are June 20 and June 28 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom
Keeping our children safe is of utmost importance to us at Franconia UMC. We have created a Child Protection Policy to help with this. One requirement of this policy is that volunteers who work with the children and youth of the church complete a Safe Sanctuary training. Welcome New Staff Members!
Amy McCarthy is our new Director of Music Ministry. Amy has had a long experience with choirs in the area and was most recently at a Methodist church in Arlington. She is also a music teacher with the Prince William County Public Schools. Amy obtained her Master’s in Music Education from George Mason University. Virginia Annual Conference
Our Virginia Annual Conference is meeting in Roanoke, VA this week (June 14-17). The theme is based on Acts 1:8b “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” In addition to Pastor Melissa, Joana Arthur, Kathy Henry and Shea Porter-Miller will also be serving. Father’s Day Brunch – Rise Against Hunger Fundraiser
Honor the dads in all of our lives and provide a love donation for Raise Against Hunger on June 18 with pancakes, eggs, and sausage immediately after the 9:00 a.m. service. This Called Church Conference will be for the purpose of approving a resolution to move our church to a modified leadership organizational structure. This new leadership structure will combine the Church Council, the SPPRC, the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee into one leadership board. The resolution before us may be found here. In a Church Conference, all members of the church are eligible to vote.
