Half Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t Say by Adam Hamilton They are simple phrases. “Everything Happens for a reason.”  “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” “Love the sinner, hate the sin.”  They sound Christian—like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. Join us Monday evenings as…

Cantata this Sunday

The number seven holds great significance in scripture. Creation took seven days; there are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit; the tabernacle was built in six days and dedicated on the seventh; and we often associate Christ’s passion with seven last words, or phrases. Sometimes overlooked is the fact that the scriptures describe, in great detail, the events of the seven last days of Jesus’ earthly existence. Each one of those seven days is of particular importance, though some were…

All are welcome…

New Span of Ages Bible Study starting on 10 April

During this Lenten season of prayerful meditation, and during this global period of unrest and worry, what comfort can be found in the Psalter?  Starting on April 10th, the Span of Ages Sunday School class will read and discuss Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible.  Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the most significant Protestant theologians of the twentieth century and a strong voice against the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and 1940’s; so much so that he was imprisoned…
