Volunteers Needed for Rise Against Hunger Event on World Communion Sunday
Our fourth annual Rise Against Hunger event is scheduled for Sunday, October 3 in Cokesbury Hall. We are planning to put together approximately 20,000 meals. Here are the opportunities to serve:
Setting Up – 9:30-11:30 a.m.:
- This includes a mix of light and heavy work, such as setting up tables and chairs, bringing in a lot of heavy equipment, boxes, and bags from the RAH truck, as well as assembling stations and labeling bags.
- We need a LOT of people to help with set-up.
Meal Assembly Shifts (three, see below for time slots):
- Shift 1: 11:30 a.m. – 1:25 p.m.
- Shift 2: 1:30 p.m. – 3:25 p.m.
- Shift 3: 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Clean Up (post packaging work):
Approximately 5:30 p.m. or following completion of shift three:
- Help with clean up, such as taking all equipment and materials back to the RAH truck, vacuuming, putting tables and chairs away, etc.
To sign up, go to this website: https://rah.secure.
- We can have approximately 30 volunteers per shift.
- You can sign up for multiple shifts.
- People in the same household should volunteer to work together.
- Volunteers should sign up in advance, but if space permits we may be able to accept walk-ins.
- You’ll need to fill in the church health form within a week of October 3rd or sign in at the event.
Per UMC guidelines, we will not be able to serve food. If signing up for multiple shifts, please make your own arrangements to eat between shifts.
If you sign up but cannot make your shift please let Suzanne Ackley know as soon as possible (text or call 703-980-3708 or emailten.xoc@eusyelkcax ) so that we are not short-handed that morning. Volunteers will be required to wear hairnets, masks and gloves (will be provided).
